Finding Hope in Mae Sot: A Call to Action
Date: October 4-5, 2024 At the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Sot, the crisis in Myanmar shows no signs of easing. Ongoing conflict and political instability continue to force thousands of Burmese Karen families to flee their homes, seeking safety in Thailand. Many arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs, having endured harrowing journeys fraught with danger and uncertainty.
We at Avoda recognize the urgent need for action. Earlier this month, we distributed Emergency Nutrition Food Aid to Karen and Myanmar refugee groups, along with summarized Bibles for spiritual encouragement. Over 825 individuals received essential support, primarily women and children in hiding. We are committed to ensuring that no one goes hungry, especially those fleeing violence and seeking refuge.
Connecting Through Community: Our 5 - Day Camp
Five-day camp for ethnic children, fostering deeper spiritual connections and unity among all ages. Youth, adults, and elders participated in daily worship, team-building activities, and gospel-sharing sessions with the broader community. With over 80 children joining, this camp was a moment of joy and a bridge to community unity and faith.
Championing Education in Mae Sot:
A Collaborative Approach
Date: October 26-27, 2024 Avoda joined a UN-sponsored meeting focused on education for Burmese refugee children in Thailand. Alongside leaders and advocates, we discussed ways to create quality educational opportunities for young people affected by conflict. Avoda believes education is a powerful tool for transforming lives, offering hope and a brighter future to these vulnerable youth. This educational support benefits not only refugee children and their families but also strengthens their life skills and potential. It provides them with better economic and social opportunities in the long term. Avoda remains committed to creating sustainable change and empowering refugee communities.
Youth-Led Bakery Project
During school break, the youth from our Chiang Rai community, predominantly from the Iu-Mien ethnic group, initiated a bakery project. This bakery was more than just a bakery —it was a hands-on experience in teamwork, leadership, and self-sufficiency.
By supporting these young leaders, you’re empowering the next generation to contribute positively to their families and communities.

A Nursing Assistant Training Center
At Avoda Mission, we are dedicated to uplifting the Burmese Karen refugees, Thai village kids, and the Iu-Mien Tribe—all in need of support. Many face significant challenges, struggling to find good work due to a lack of ID cards and education, leaving families without the means to live comfortably.
Recently, our partner Gerhard from Germany visited us to discuss an exciting project: establishing a Nursing Assistant Training Center. This center aims to create job opportunities for the Karen community, helping them build better lives.
